A “Task” in Jira terminology indicates a particular piece of work to be done.
It is important to note, that in “project management” a “task” indicates work to be done in a general sense, however in Jira it is just a work to be done.
It is because Jira has multiple “work to be done types”, that indicate a category of work to be done, for example:
- a bug – a work to be done that indicates a problem to be fixed
- a story – an overall mid-level description of a feature split into multiple tasks
- an epic – an overall high-level description of work to be done split into multiple stories or tasks
